Republic Day Parade, Schedule & Celebration

The Republic Day in India is celebrated with much passion and fervour. An impressive parade/ procession is held in the capital of India New Delhi. It starts from the famous Raisina Hill next to (President’s House) Rashtrapati Bhavan, beside the Rajpath and proceeds towards the Red Fort. The parade starts with the President laying a headdress at the Indian Gate at the Amar Jawan Jyoti, honouring all the soldiers/ martyrs.

After a 21 gun salute to the martyrs, the National Anthem is played and the President unfurls the National Flag. This indicates the opening of the procession. The President is accompanies by a foreign dignitary who is the Chief Guest of the function. The parade starts with the President of India, who’s the Indian Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief, taking the salutation at the parade.

Then the defence – Indian Army, Air Force and Naval Services showcase their missiles, radars, tanks and so on. After that, medals and award of gallantry are awarded by the President of India the citizen from the military for their outstanding courage in their field and furthermore to those residents who have determined themselves through their diverse acts of bravery in different positions. Then the IAF helicopters shower rose petals on the viewers.

Next comes the brilliant cultural procession. India’s affluent cultural legacy is showcased by the people from all the states and union territories. This procession depicting the diversity and prosperity of the customs of different states of India adds a joyful air to festive occasion.

School and college kids from around the country also join in the procession demonstrating singing and folk dances to the sounds of nationalistic songs. The republic day celebration gives a unique chance for any individual to see vibrant, colourful and unique cultural diversity of India along with the military might of the country.
